Warren Backs Taxpayer-Funded Gender Reassignment Surgeries for Trans Prison Inmates

2020 Democratic presidential hopeful Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) expressed that she believes U.S. taxpayers should fund gender reassignment surgeries for prison inmates.

During Thursday’s CNN LGBTQ town hall, the Democratic primary candidate made her view on the issue public, though it isn’t where she’s always stood on the subject.

When Warren was first running for Senate, a federal judge ruled in September of 2012 that Michelle Kosilek, a convicted felon, should receive sex-change surgery as requested. At the time, Warren said, “I have to say, I don’t think it’s a good use of taxpayer dollars.”

When Warren was gearing up for her 2020 run, a spokesperson told ThinkProgress in January of 2019, “Senator Warren supports access to medically necessary services, including transition-related surgeries. This includes procedures taking place at the VA, in the military, or at correctional facilities.”

On Thursday night, Warren held the same position as earlier this year.

Asked by CNN host Chris Cuomo if she regrets her position in 2012, Warren responded, “I think it was a bad answer.”

“I believe that everyone is entitled to medical care and medical care that they need, and that includes people who are transgender who it is the time for them to have gender-affirming surgery,” she continued. “I just think that’s appropriate, and the appropriate medical care.”

I dunno, a sex starved dude sentenced to life in prison that’s already feeling lonely might get pretty popular amongst the prison population after his sex reassignment surgery (especially if the surgeon pumps those silicon boobs up REAL big). I can see why they’d be for it!! As long as Fauxcahontas is for it, me too!!! Big boobs for everyone that wants ’em!!!!

GC: What’s fricking ridiculous is paying for a reassignment surgery and follow up specialty care for a person who is serving a 20+ year sentence (if not life) , at all.

That’s our tax money prisoners should not get elective surgery at our expence.

How about enhancements for my girlfriend?

Morte206, I’m pretty sure that Warren also wants your uninsured cousin to get the insulin and supplies that he needs. I don’t think Trump cares about him any more than he cares about transgender prisoners, for what it’s worth.

Mind you, my temporarily uninsured cousin, can’t afford his insulin and related diabetic supplies like glucose test strips, but if he ends up in jail it’s nice to know he can finally have that medically unnecessary sex change he’s been yearning for.

Give me a fricking break! SMH
