‘I’m Friends With George Bush’: Ellen DeGeneres Pushes Back on Critics Upset That She Went to a Game With Bush

Ellen DeGeneres pushed back against those who criticized her for attending a football game with former President George W. Bush.

On Sunday, DeGeneres joined Charlotte Jones — who’s father Jerry Jones owns the Dallas Cowboys — in their suite to watch the game between the Cowboys and the Green Bay Packers.

Jones’ suite hosted many celebrities, including former President Bush and his wife, former first lady Laura Bush. During the game, the NFL televised a clip of DeGeneres and Bush laughing together during the game.

Several people were outraged that DeGeneres sat near Bush at a football game. They took to Twitter to call her out for sitting with the former president.

On her show Monday, DeGeneres called out those criticizing her decision. She claimed that Americans needed to be reminded that it’s “okay” to have friends with different values.

Watch DeGeneres’ clip below:

“During the game, they showed a shot of George and me laughing together. And so people were upset. They thought, why is a gay, Hollywood liberal sitting next to a conservative Republican president? Didn’t even notice I’m holding the brand new iPhone 11. But a lot of people were mad and they did what people do when they’re mad: they tweet. But here’s one tweet that I loved: ‘Ellen and George Bush together makes me have faith in America again.’

Here’s the thing: I’m friends with George Bush. In fact, I’m friends with a lot of people who don’t share the same beliefs that I have. We’re all different and I think we’ve forgotten that that’s okay that we’re all different.”

DeGeneres added, “Just because I don’t agree with someone on everything doesn’t mean that I’m not going to be friends with them. When I say, ‘Be kind to one another,’ I don’t mean only the people that think the same way that you do. I mean be kind to everyone.”

Overall, DeGeneres’ message was warmly received, though there were some that didn’t seem to agree with her point.

Bush seems to be able to cross party lines to make friendships with ease, as his friendship with former First Lady Michelle Obama is well documented.

Calling Bush a Conservative Republican is maybe a bit of a stretch…but notice that none of the Republicans complained about this? Liberals are SO angry. As Powers Boothe told us, all that hate’s gonna burn them up…

Ellen was originally offered a seat next to Vice President Dick Cheney, but she advised that she preferred Bush to Dick.

This is what happens when a wealthy elite loses touch with reality.

Bush wasn’t just against gays, he fought to rule against them.

Bush wasn’t just in the military, he is considered to be a war criminal.

Ellen is confused by ethics and morality, now.

Bravo Ellen for standing up to the outrage mob and being the “adult in the room”.

There’s something seriously wrong with isolating yourself among people who ALL think alike. It leads to things like groupthink, thinking violence and harassment are okay, and really boring discussions.

It’s odd that liberals don’t include Hillary and Biden when they say “illegal bloodshed” since they voted yes to the war…

Thank you Ellen for showing our seemingly more and more restrictive communities that a large part of living (and even loving) is about sharing space, air and life in general with many different people.

This Republican lesbian thanks you.
